The ninth annual Bee Positive Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by the Kayla Bernardi Bee Positive Foundation, will be held Jan. 27 at Turlock High School’s Joe Debely Stadium, on the corner of Colorado Avenue and Marshall Street.
You can register on the day of the race beginning at 8 a.m. — the race starts at 9 — and costs $40 for adults and $30 for college students and teens 18 and under.
This year, Dust Bowl Brewing Co. is joining the festivities, hosting a post-race extravaganza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Beer Garden. There will be music, corn hole competitions and, for the first 250 race participants 21 and older, a free beer or seltzer. Participants under 21 can enjoy a free soft drink.
A food trailer and outdoor bar will be open for the occasion, and a special Bizzy Bee beer will be brewed especially for the event.
The Kayla Bernardi Bee Positive Foundation was started in 2015 after the 20-year-old Bernardi died from leukemia. The Bernardi family chose to stay focused on the positive aspects of Kayla’s life and make a difference in the community.
Bernardi’s nickname was “Busy Bee” and the foundation carries that moniker today in her honor.
The Bee Positive Foundation raises money to aid community endeavors.
Last year, nearly 100 competitors took part in the run/walk, with 16-year-old Ryan Arias winning the men’s competition, finishing in 19 minutes, 7.96 seconds, while 47-year-old Cherlynn Ferrell was the women’s overall winner with a clocking of 21:11.34.
